Your future, under construction

<American history not required for today's students.

The study, sponsored by the American Council of Trustees and Alumni, found none of the 55 schools require American history for graduation. And 78 percent of the schools don’t require students to take any history classes, according to Jerry Martin, one of the report’s authors.

“These students are allowed to graduate as if they didn’t know the past existed,” Martin said.

This is no accident.

There is a damn good reason the socialists currently in positions of power in our education system want people to be ignorant of the principles on which this country was founded, ignorant of the basic philosophical differences between freedom and totalitarianism, and most of all, ignorant of the horrendous history of socialism.

Look at what is taught in your kid's school, and what is omitted, and judge for yourself.

My own experience:

My own daughter was in high school before she got any extensive education on modern European history, including WWI, WWII, and the totalitarian regimes that ran most of the Earth for most of the last century.

American history--the Revolution, the settling of the West, technological progress, the wars--is a complete blank through most of elementary school and part of middle school. Colonial America is dealt with almost exclusively on the basis of externalities like the clothes they wore, what they ate, how they talked, and how their houses were made. A Williamsburg imitation was a big item in our son's school, but politics never entered the mix at all.

Through all of elementary school, ancient history is studied extensively. Mayans. Africans. Egyptians. Rome. And many, many chapters on American Indians. European history is almost a total blank, and the main mention of Europeans is how they mistreated Indians. No Renaissance. No English history. No voyages of discovery (you know how Columbus is discussed in schools.) Most kids can rattle off the names of many local Indian tribes, but wouldn't -know who Winston Churchill or Henry the Eighth were.

I attempt to teach my kids what they missed in school, so at least they are better off than some others. One hopes this is true of other parents. I wish I was better at this--dates and names are not my strongest suit, and I could no more rattle off all the American Presidents than I could fly to the Moon by flapping my arms. Come to mention it, I couldn't even tell you who all the Apollo astronauts were without looking it up.

I say again, this selection of material is deliberate. Our public education system is attempting to mold the ideal citizen for a totalitarian society:

- Ignorant of their own history
- Rejecting not only a specific moral code, but the very concept of moral judgment itself
- Unable to use reason effectively, and largely lacking in common sense
- Angry at society
- In contempt of their own nation, culture, and principles
- Willing to believe whatever they were told last, and vote accordingly
- Judging people not by their character and ideas, but by their culture, language, and the color of their skin
- Seeing government as the solution to almost every problem

That many kids still manage to rise above their education is a miracle I am daily grateful for.
