And I'm sure you're right, a lot more paractical than the Mars, but still they are glorious relics. One airplane dropping 1 million liters of water in 5.9 hours is pretty impressive.
My father-in-law flew some huge Dornier flying boats in Germany after WWII, testing them for the RAF and others, and he wished he could have brought a few back to Canada as water bombers, but they were pretty much all scrapped... he almost cried when talking about all the beautiful machinery that was destroyed.
