<When are people EVER going to see through the propaganda and advertising that blinds them to realize that YOU are nothing more than a brain-dead, money paying sap sucker to be bled to death by these cunning entertainment executives??
Geez, and here I thought I went to movies for a good time, not because I was a stupid, hypnotized zombie. A little liberal elitism slipping through here?
A hot item that appeals to the lazy masses is made (sequel after sequel) and paraded around as the next appetizer for the brain dead masses. True art, like good films........are made to be enjoyed, and it's a crap shoot if the film company ever gets its money back.
People go to the "hot movies" precisely because they enjoy them. Why do you think they spend money to see them?
Most "art" films and Sundance Specials are not very enjoyable, although there are notable exceptions (I thought Amelie was a hoot). Many are like cod liver oil--supposed to be good for you so you tolerate it. You don't sell a lot of popcorn at "Hedwig and the Angry Inch," which probably half the audience saw because they thought it was about Harry Potter's owl.
In some circles, quiet accolades, praise and excellent reviews mean more than a belly busting box office "hit".
Not very many. Most "excellent reviews" on art films come from the same small groups of circle-jerk critics. If an audience doesn't like a film, there it is. And if you don't want an audience to appreciate it, why make it in the first place? It's just as valuable sitting inside your head unmade.
It's good that there are people willing to put money into non-mainstream films without hope of much profit. This is after all where the talent eventually comes from, and more power to them.
But while no one is pretending that "MIB II" has much redeeming social value beyond a fun "belly busting" evening out, it doesn't make the product contemptible.
BTW, does Bowser know you are using his trademarked "arf?" The attorneys are circling even now...
