The replacements are wholly less than acceptable. They do not rate superpower of the world status.
I personally favor a golden spire that twists like an infinite logarithmic spiral - at a ratio of roughly 1.619:1
This same ratio is the ratio plants leaves twist at on a stalk and which nature uses constantly from atoms to galaxies - it would inspire and create a visual impression so lasting as to make even the Vedic tower look carved out of play-dough.
The problem however is bankers. Try slipping a proposal like that past Credit Suisse First Boston, Bank of America or Citigroup. The insurance companies will make sure that the thing is d--- near uninsurable as it has a target on it.
However, this design would also be stronger than anything else to date, and could be designed to withstand winds, and storms at heights much higher than the Kuala Lampur towers. This ratio follows natures own infinite ratio - and allows for thinner structures to go taller without as broad a base when you distribute the weight.
In many ways it would resemble a golden flame - reaching for the heavens. A more fitting tribute and a more glorious replacement I think could hardly be found.
This twisting design would also make suicides darn near impossible and evacuation a piece of cake. As the structure would curve gently around itself the exterior would function as a huge slide which could carry people down to the ground level. (Appopriate speed bumps would be necessary to keep folks from picking up too much momentum though)
Simply put, this would be the most advanced building design yet seen on the face of the planet earth.
That is what NY and the USA needs!
Knock us down and we just get better!
