I would not mind in the slightest going thru an even more intense process every time if I had the belief that these folks have an effective methodology. They don't. It's all for show and bombast by the pols.

Real security...
Secure all cockpit doors.
Arm the pilots.
Pilots only restroom.
1005 scan all checked & carry-on luggage.
PROFILE likely terrorists & pull 'em aside for discussion (requires sophisticated security personell, Israeli style)
Allow nail clippers, etc.
