You hit the crux of the matter. Of course property rights (to films, etc.) need to be protected.
"If there was a way to police the black marketeering and general loss of revenue caused by this tech, while permitting the individual to record a show, then everyone would be for that solution."
At first blush I was about to say "I agree with that" but then I realized that this digital rights stuff is also about big media restricting creative small media folks from having access to their markets. Today a muscian or other artist can access folks thru the net easily and gain unprecidented revenue for their creative labor. Some of the proposed "rules" would inhibit independents. Maybe these gotchas will get eliminated.
The other thing going on here is Microsoft with its new Palladium OS paradigm with secured data trying to sell us a whole new generation of bloatware. They have the big chip makers, Intel & AMD signed up and Hollywood as well. Of course THEY get to sell us all their stuff all over again too. It's a clever marketing ploy to obsolete all PCs and PC software for the "next big thing" - digital rights protection & "security". It would affect any digital device, cameras, whatever. Jeeze, I sound like a socialist here but I'm simply criticizing the marketing plan of big corporations. Something that's valid to criticize, the value to the consumer.
-p (never "shared" a digital song, movie whatever - paid for it all)
