Off Topic » in reply to Jules Verne is BORING.

Times change

Yeah to us it is boring.
But, for the time it was written it was accepted style. Victorian era liturature is filled with long passages of words piled upon words. Exacting minute descriptions of each and every item in a setting. It does make for a tough go of it.

I have been rereading some of the later S/F classics lately. Bradbury, Clarke, Bester ETC.
It gets a little hard to read some of it, when the setting is Venus for instance. Huge swamps, vast oceans and such. One thing about S/F, as we learn more about the unioverse around us a lot of it gets outdated, or just downright silly.

Keep wading through it Tom, it does get better.
In places.
