"Berkeley is at it again..."

The business of Berkeley mandating Politically Correct Coffee has been brought up before, but this editorial adds more detail, and shows exactly why this latest monkeywrench into the free market won't help coffeegrowers any more than any of the thousands of others wrenches liberals have tossed into the machinery for years have helped anything else. What the editorial doesn't show, since the liberal writer is functionally incapable of thinking that way, is that it is a grotesque violation of the right of a businessman to freely do business.

Note specifically that it is not enough for coffeehouses to decide on their own that they want to serve PC coffee. They must be forced--FORCED--to serve PC coffee under threat of six month's imprisonment, a hundred-dollar fine, or both.

To a Berkeley liberal, this concept is perfectly reasonable. Their motto: That Which Is Not Forbidden is Compulsory. While horrified at the idea of citizens owning guns, they have no problems whatsoever with routinely pulling guns on citizens to enforce whatever dumbass whim happens to cross their drug-ravaged brains at the moment.

On the page discussing the Measure, there are arguments for and against. Note the pathetic arguments "against," which draw on liberal altruism and weakly defend "consumer choice." Not one argument calls this piece of crap--which has nothing to do with health, safety, or anything other than a leftist agenda--an abomination against the freedom of choice of THE BUSINESSMEN to serve whatever goddam coffee they like. Of course, in Berkeley where businessmen rank somewhere slightly above child molesters, this is not too surprising.

When you expand the kind of twisted thinking that this measure represents into national policy, you can see where our country's problems lie. We will learn a lot about our country when we see if this passes, or is roundly defeated.
