Mexican Terrorism

<At least once a day in Mexico, someone is kidnapped for ransom, ruining lives and extracting a punishing economic cost from the victims and their companies. It has become so common here that being abducted at gunpoint and held for weeks or months has become part of the fabric of life, an accepted risk, a simple cost of doing business.

STORY

I especially find the part about the police being the ones doing the kidnapping, very telling. I knew several businessmen who even in San Diego always traveled with an uzi and hollow point bullets (illegal bullets by the way)- afraid of being kidnapped by Mexicans and taken across the border. Many went so far as to have their Mercedes, BMWs or Cadillacs armored and kidnap transmitters installed in the trunks. (a common technique is to kidnap the victim and throw him in his own trunk)

Reading stories like this one sees that Mexico's corruption is bad and getting worse. The war on terrorism will be fought here, eventually, as well - even if not in a public newsy way.
