That'd be worse than opening shock...
Back in my old paratrooper days, I had a love-hate relationship with opening shock. When the chute opened, I very quickly slowed from about 120 MPH down to 15 MPH in a second or so. It could be pretty uncomfortable, especially if the crotch straps had shifted (as happened from time to time) or if the butt saddle wasn't in place. Man, you couldn't get on the ground fast enough when that happened.
I say love-hate in regards to opening shock because, while the shock was no fun, not having one would be much less fun because that means the chute didn't open.
