<"...He asks me what I'd do in Bush's shoes. Easy: I'd honour Kyoto. Join the world court. I'd stop subsidising earth rapers like Monsanto, Dupont and Exxon. I'd shut down the nuclear power plants. So I already have $200bn saved from corporate welfare. I'd save another $100bn by stopping the war on non-corporate drugs. And I'd cut the defence budget in half so they'd have to get by on a measly $200bn a year. I've already saved half a billion bucks by saying no to polluters and warmongers.
Then I'd give $300bn back to the taxpayers. I'd take the rest and pay the people teaching our children what they deserve. I'd put $100bn into alternative fuels and renewable energy. I'd revive the Chemurgy movement, which made the farmer the root of the economy, and make paper and fuel from wheat straw, rice straw and hemp. Not only would I attend, I'd sponsor the next Earth Summit. And, of course, I'd give myself a fat raise."
Between 1975 and 1979, the infamous Pol Pot -- the former hypochondriac carpentry student who cast a "hypnotic effect on all who heard him speak" -- unleashed the single most radical restructuring of a society in human history. Pol Pot's Maoist utopian nightmare began with the emptying of Phnom Penh's entire population in only seven days time. Pol Pot eliminated money, the Post Office, the exchange of information, leisure time, fashion, books, libraries, Buddhist Temples, universities and markets.
The evacuees of Cambodia's major cities and towns were renamed "New People," of "The Year Zero," and moved to the rural areas of the country. They included the cultural, scientific, political, spiritual and intellectual elite of Cambodian society. Foreigners, people who spoke foreign languages or wore eyeglasses were deemed "parasites" and systematically put to death in the most medieval way imaginable at the S-21 Tuol Sleng prison and the Killing Fields at Choeung Ek. Over 2 million Cambodians perished in the Khmer Rouge Holocaust -- almost a quarter of the country's population.

I haven't the slightest doubt Woody would do exactly what he says he would. And people wonder why I get apoplexy when screaming idiots like this get within a parsec of possessing political power. The very first image that came into my mind was Pol Pot marching the people out of the cities to fulfill his psychotic agrarian fantasies. One of the purest collectivists that ever existed, his goal was to convert every living human being into a simple reflection of his own diseased brain. Only the leader of North Korea comes close, with his poverty-ravaged people marching by the thousands in identical clothes in front of the platform on which stands their God.
Harrelson is of that philosophical class who could easily see making driving a gasoline-powered car a crime. Or anything else that conflicted with how he thinks society ought to be arranged. With not even the remotest perception of how the American economy works, he is willing to go at it with the same enthusiasm as a child takes to obliterating a Swiss watch with a ball-peen hammer.
"A fat raise." And of course after ravaging the economic system, somehow he assumes there would still be the surplus wealth to support guys who make millions of dollars flapping their lips in front of a movie camera. Sure, why not?
Normally, I pay no attention to people who are frankly nuts. The difference between Harrelson and the guy on Main Street who carries around a broken tennis racket and screams about the electrical parasites in his brain, is that you don't find Racket Man being written up in major newspapers and addressing political rallies.
Off Topic » in reply to Embedded in this piece of crap by Woody Harrelson is a very significant insight on why we are now facing war.
