I took my teenaged daughter to the Dr. today. In the waiting room was a large black lady wearing a rather expensive looking sweatshirt emblazoned with the following:
Authentic Niggawear, Official G shirt
Now I am confused. I know that the N word is acceptable verbal slang between blacks but it seems to be straining good taste to wear such things on your clothing in a public place. If whites are taught that this is offensive and do not even use the word among themselves, is it not as offensive the F word to see it printed on clothing?
For those better at PC a few more questions:
Is it incorrect for me to think the shirt was humorous and if so is it okay to laugh out loud?
Would it be incorrect for me to buy and wear such a shirt? (I imagine it would)
How would this kind of thing strike the typical white ultra liberal?
My daughter explained to me that G is also black slang for the N word. She seemed to think that the spelling variance was important and she hears both terms used frequently at school but not by whites.
A puzzlement of political correctness
