Cherokee was one of the few written native languages
so they probably wouldn't have wanted to use it. Cherokees did serve in the military but probably not as Code Talkers.
Funny thing - the Code Talkers were supposed to be some kind of big secret that wasn't revealed until a few years ago. How then can you explain one of them being a featured character in Leon Uris's book (and the movie made from it back in the 1950s) "Battle Cry." The movie has a scene where the Code Talker is speaking Navaho to call in support and a frustrated Japanese radio operator who can't understand what's being said. Good book, pretty good movie about the Marines in WWII.
