The mind's ability to integrate visual data to create more information than is available from the simple visual scene is what makes our vision system work like it does. The fact that everything is projected on your retina upside down, and your brain "corrects" this, is fascinating enough. People given glasses that reverse this suddenly see everything upside down. Amazingly, their brains correct AGAIN for this, and eventually they are seeing normally through the glasses! Then take the glasses away...

The fact that you can see a dog here is a testament to the amazing integrating power of your brain. No computer would see anything here but random specks.
Unfortunately, like other aspects of human intelligence, the capacity comes with built in flaws: we have a tendency to see patterns and information where none actually exists, or misinterpret the information that is there.
