Doesn't mean you're on a stupid list (I hope!). I got another one just this morning.
The Nigerian Scam goes back a couple of decades, and I hear it's become a major part of the Nigerian economy. Some estimates say that tens of thousands of people there work on this family of scams. A guy in my office has been playing one of the scammers for several weeks now. A couple of times the tone of the emails changed, and I think he was handed off to a different con artist in the same "shop".
Try searching the phrase "Nigerian Scam" on Google. The State Department white paper is interesting, and even talks about a handful of murders connected to these scams. You'll also find Web sites where people have strung 'em along and published the correspondence.
Have fun....
