More to it

The cost of refitting older ships such as the Constellation, a ship with a proud history, is prohibitive.
More than simple accommodations, the costs a refitting those older Warships lies in installing modern electronics, advanced weapons and fire-control systems, improving engine performance, ECM abilities ETC.
Add the fact that the very basic structure of the ship is outdated, near the end of it’s useful life and it is cheaper in the long run to replace the Vessel.
I hate to see those pictures of ships mothball in various ports around the country. A sad end to fine ships, memories of the men, and now women who served on them soaked into the very metal they are made of. But all things come to an end, reality often has no room for sentimentalism.

We must keep advanced front line equipment on call, or we suffer the dire results of our neglect.
Ask a Pearl Harbor survivor, a Tank Commander at the beginning of WW II, someone who went into battle during the Korean Winter in ‘52, an infantryman at the beginning of the Viet Nam conflict. Any of them can tell about not having the best we could build when it hit the fan
