House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., refuses to deny that she slurred African-Americans during a conversation about abortion with former Congressman Robert Dornan, according to a published report Tuesday.



"What would you do if one of your daughters was raped by a black man?" the California Democrat replied, according to Dornan, when he raised the question of her Catholicism and her own five children during an encounter in the 1990s.

"I said, 'Nancy, we're both Catholics with five children.... Why would you advance abortion?'" Dornan recounted during a recent radio appearance, according to Tuesday's New York Daily News.

Pelosi's response was to invoke the noxious racial stereotype of blacks raping white women.

A press aide to Pelosi told the News that the top Democrat had "no response" to Dornan's accusation, leaving the story to stand without contradiction.



I'm not the only person who thinks that you don't have to scratch a lot of Democratic politicians very deeply to reveal the bigotry underneath. Usually it's expressed as condescension, and the conviction that minorities cannot succeed unless they are "taken care of."
