Admit it, you stuck that last one on there to appease Mary Anne.
And I think I have to disagree about the rest, in principle if not in heart.
Why draw the line under museums and symphonies? If they can't get enough paying punters inside their doors then surely the free market has spoken?
If Damien Hearst cuts a cow in half, sticks it in a formaldehyde bath and produces a piece that is reviled by 99.999999999% of people but is scooped up for a significant wad of cash by a person of no taste, the free market has also spoken.
If the going rate for a piece of canvas painted in dayglo orange and purple is 2 mill, the free market has spoken.
And whether or not the buyer is the government or a person, still makes no difference to me. We'll have to agree to disagree.
Cheers,
Tony
