Re: Saw Gods & Generals

Sounds like an excellent film. Not sure I would like it. I've never been fond of realistic war movies*...I haven't even seen "Patriot" yet. The Civil War is particularly poignant because it was Americans vs. Americans. They had a reenactment last year here, and when the two sides charged at each other and men started falling left and right, I was surprised to find tears rolling down my cheeks, even though I knew it was all fake.

"Well, well, Mr. Brosz. Not much in the way of guts for someone who is so gung-ho to invade Iraq, eh?"

I don't like people getting hurt. I understand that there are good reasons for going to war...sometimes compelling ones...but I don't have to like it. Just because you find it necessary to shoot your dog doesn't automatically mean you are gleefully enthusiastic about shooting dogs. You might even be utterly horrified at the idea of shooting a dog. But sometimes it has to be done. I am fully aware of what an attack on Iraq will involve, but I think it is still necessary in the long run.

I am inclined to think that this is the attitude of those running our government, too. I like to think that our soldiers think along the same lines. Nobody wants an army that really enjoys its job.

*Old-fashioned John Wayne types are kind of fun. More cartoonish in the violence I guess, which is why Matrix/Terminator type movies are also fun for me. You couldn't get me within five miles of a slasher movie.
