I had LASIK several years ago. My eyes had gotten so bad that, without my glasses, an eye chart was just a smudge.
It was almost as bad as the old joke, "Take off your glasses and look at the eye chart on the wall. What's the smallest letter you can see?"
"What wall?"
LASIK was completely painless, except to my wallet. My only regret is that my wife and I didn't wait until she went to work for the doctor (as his clinical nurse manager) before having the treatment. We paid a total of $7000 to have our eyes done. Had we waited until she worked for him, it would've been free. Of course, we had no way of knowing she'd work for him one day.
BTW: the eye doctor is quite geeky himself. In addition to all the cool gadgets he uses in his practice, he owns a really cool airplane and is looking to upgrade to an even better one. He has some really cool toys. Something tells me I went into the wrong line of work. No one pays coders that kind of money, not even Gates.
