<'Bush Wins': The Left's Nightmare Scenario
And no. It isn't about the election. Short of hitting people on the head with a 2 x 4, I don't think the real political motives of the main antiwar movement could be made any more obvious. Even the author is puzzled by some of the attitudes of his fellow travelers.
My favorite quote, underlining a point I have made quite often:
The first is an optimistic "We Win" scenario, which would result from massive protests and diplomatic pressure forcing President Bush to postpone an invasion indefinitely. (What has yet to be addressed is what exactly we win if Hussein remains indefinitely in power and the sanctions go on killing Iraqis.)
Oh. Geez. You noticed that, huh?
To be fair, this guy at least is willing to acknowledge and express concern about the problem of Saddam and his tyrannical regime. Damn few leftists will even bring it up.
Still, his phrase about the "progressive" community moving to quickly lay roots in Iraq creeps me out. Maybe some leftists see Iraq as the next great hope of socialism, kind of like Nicaragua was a few years back.
Just in case it isn't crystal clear yet...
