The Philippine War of 1898-1902 saw the American "Burn all and kill all" campaign. By the end of the war, 500000 civilians were killed; 5 times the number that had died during the Japanese occupation of 1941-45. It is said that over 60% of the population of Luzon Island was exterminated due to American atrocities.
