well its not as if a smooth surface means there a liquid there, and it only makes sense for a high area to cast shadows on a downward sloaping hill (making it dark) and as well casting a shadow on the flatland below it. It only makes sense for the dark side of a slope to coincide with a shadow on the ground, after all the slope is dark because of the same shadow.

I see nothing I would not expect.
