RE: How the universe will end.

Hello Dan and all,
Thanks for the story/info., mind-boggling.
What about the ending though? I'm not looking for a "hollywood happy ending" but at the same time I wonder is the observable universe we see today eventually doomed to be a "vast, cold, dark, and profoundly lonely place?"
I realize that most likely black holes will eventually gobble up all matter but do we really have enough info yet? The article itself says this is "further in the future than our minds can grasp" and what is on the other side (the holy grail of space science, what lies beyound the event horizon) of black holes, where does all this matter go?
I'm not sure I fully understand the article, in one sense it states that the universe is active and will be expanding for a long time to come but will eventually be "sucked" into black holes with nothing left. Do black holes really have enough "power" to pull all matter into them, if so why is the universe still expanding?
Sorry more questions than answers, I'm still a young one and have not had enough experience in several science fields ( a layman ). If you can help clarify I would appreciate it thanks.
see ya VINCE
