LA Officials want to tax comm satellites
I saw the story in my morning paper. I'll try to find a link to the story online. In essence, city tax officials want to tax communications satellites owned by Los Angeles companies as business assets. It doesn't matter to them that the satellites aren't in California or even over the state (they're over the equator). The tax could easily be several million dollars a year per satellite. Once more, it looks like bureaucratic greed will likely succeed in driving industry out of the state.
