Whoops! Goldin Did It Again!

Goldin has not changed his tune. He talked about a trip last week to Israel, where he visited a launch site operated with just 250 staffers.

"Put that into your mind as a reference and say, 'Do we need one hundred times more people?' " Goldin said. "Every penny we spend on bureaucracy is a penny or a dollar or a quarter that comes out of science."

Goldin cited a 70-person photo lab at Johnson Space Center in Houston that might be a place for cuts. But he didn't answer why he hadn't just cut the jobs himself.

Goldin's message of staff cuts as an answer might not be welcome with the task force. Chairman Young led a previous independent panel that found cutbacks in the Mars program had contributed to massive problems.

Pike said the staff cuts were part of the problem, not the solution.

"Goldin has consistently underestimated the resources needed."

Note the point...Goldin could have taken the action(s), he didn't. One of his many faults is that he talks the talk and never walks the walk. There's plenty he could do within his discretion as administrator, but he does not do it. So, is an Israeli 100x better than an American?
