Justin, hang on a second there. Yeah, in a sense this is a "breakfast nook" because discussion can range over a wide area. There's a natural limit to how deeply we can get into any one topic because the board structure divides topics into threads, and when threads reach a certain size the discussion becomes unwieldy and threads die a natural death. Notice how Alex weaves "metathreads" by posting a new root message to continue an earlier topic, to get around this limitation. Clearly the topic of the origins of Mars is bigger than one thread, and Alex and others have been improvising a solution--they're creating a virtual board inside this board. This, to me, is a clear sign that the subject is just about big enough to spawn a specialized board.
