Space/Science » in reply to Saturn occultation

Missed it, but....

When I stepped outside my apartment door, just before 10pm (0300 UT, 12/1/01), Saturn was about a lunar radius east of the Moon.

There was some thin wrack scudding across the otherwise crystal sky at intervals - when it passed in front of the Moon, a circular nimbus complete with spectral colors - a moonbow - could be seen.

That's a mere seven hours after seeing a rainbow from the same location, as the sharp trailing edge of a cloudburst passed eastward.

Naked-eye astronomy: the first science.
