If we ever have "a national sales tax" it will be because those on the left who fight it will not be supported by those on the right who usually fund the anti-tax agenda. Sales tax is a very non-progressive tax. It shifts funding of the government to lower income citizens. The wealthy prefer sales taxes to income or property taxes.
