People of means...and mean people

Hi Larry,

I have known some people who are rather solvent and have made lots of money in various ventures.

However, these folks stick very close to what they know and what they have 'established themselves' in. So Bill Gates sticks with computer/internet related projects and does not venture to far outside his field of expertise.

The same is true for other very wealthy folks who do not want to risk their money in something unrelated to their own 'specialty'.

Also, the old adage of the tightwad trillionaire - is not one based on myth. People of means, on average, are meaner people.

The question which remains is whether their meanness created their means or their means created their meanness?

Now this is certainly not an absolute - but I have been surprised just how true it is in most instances.

The more one competes in the wealth game, the more homes one has throughout the world - the more one complains about being ripped off of a cheeseburger from the McDonalds drive thru and the more likely you are to hire the cheapest foreign help to watch your kids and clean your extensive grounds.

Best wishes,
