Hi Larry,
Was I really? I think it may have seemed that way on first glance. But at second glance...

You're whining that Gates a) must be mean because he's rich and successful, and b) because he has a lot of money, he should spend it as YOU see fit.
No, Gates can spend his money as he sees fit - its his business practices which are 'mean' if one can call it that - or 'criminal' is a better word for it.
Sorry, but if he choose, he could dump all of his money and stocks into a big pile and create the world's most expensive bonfire. It belongs to him so how he chooses to spend it is no one else's business (wife and kids excepted).
Agreed.
I can't begin to count the number of times I've read whiners complaining that Gates won't spend a few billion on their pet projects. They also complain that any good deed he does other than their pet project is just a scam or publicity stunt.
Well, I guess I'm quite jaded. I lived in La Jolla, CA for a long time...many friends ...and those with whom I'm not so friendly have used money very shrewdly.
The president of UNITED WAY who was inflating his salary to several hundred grand and many other scam-charities, or Live-Aid, Farm-Aid, leave one with a very tainted view of charitable activities.
In Gates case, you cant be a criminal in business practices and then give money obtained largely illegally away and expect folks to applaud.
Well...not me. I won't applaud.
Gates has donated billions to do things like vaccinate millions of poor children around the world. Hard as it is for many Americans to believe, but in many countries 20% or more of all kids won't live to see their 5th birthday. Many of these kids die of diseases that can be prevented by a cheap vaccination. But no, saving the lives of millions of children isn't good enough for the whiners and conspiracy wonks. No, he should be spending his money on some space project or other charity. Millions of kids be damned! Gates should send humans to Mars instead! (substitute your favorite boondoggle for Mars as you see fit).
Heck, I don't want any of Bill Gates money to do anything. He can vaccinate away.
If I diminish the value of vaccinations for third world countries its only because I
believe prolonging a miserable life is counterproductive. Gates can do it if he wants to, that's fine with me.
We build our own enemies. We vaccinate kids so they can live another twenty years to die of aids. We help perpetuate a population explosion in the areas least needing life-extension.
The civilized nations births are decreasing - but we spend our time and efforts prolonging the life of the third world peoples who contribute nothing to the world but more people - people who are generally less intelligent, more violent and less productive planetary dwellers.
That's sort of a suicidal charity - in my view and one that will doom the earth to abysmal ignorance and war.
Ever since the west started pitying these folks - unaware that these folks were perfectly suited to their evolutionary development and should be let to die young and learn the necessary lessons that includes.
Of course, here I have a fundamental difference in that I see an extended miserable life as one that just adds suffering and does not diminish it. Not that I am for 'dignity killing' which is also imbalanced - but nature sometimes should be left to run its course.
There is a reason AIDs, ebola and the worst diseases which wipe out folks fast and fiercely originate in Africa. While no one wants to address this because it seems heartless or cruel - and hopelessly politically incorrect - but nature is definitely balancing things out. These regions only suffer MORE with more people alive - not less.
The suffering in India is another case in point. Over a billion folks there, and countless millions of which live lives of horrid misery on the street until they starve to death.
Procreation activities are often their only recreation and this unfortunately just adds to the suffering and misery in the long term.
Yes, I know - I'm a heartless SOB.
But we can't save everyone - and when one sees the longterm picture humanitarian aid - is often inhumane and perhaps even insane.
Frankly, I'm sick of the whiners who hate those who achieve success and want nothing more than to tear them down. I'm sick of those who think other people are too ignorant to be allowed to spend their own money as they see fit. These are just a couple of the reasons why I'll never vote for another Democrat as long as I live, and I vote in EVERY election.
Well...I am with you there.
Best wishes,
