Re: Topographical Map?

These features are smaller-scale than any topo map we can make from e.g. MOLA.

It may be possible to make maps of some areas in a few years time when more images that overlap have been aquired, and we can do photogrammetry. It may also be possible then to catalogue and identify new flows on a year-by-year basis, but right now we don't have enough data.

I could draw you a sketch map of my interpretation, but it would be totally subjective and have little scientific value. Depending on which image you're looking at, and the lighting conditions, some of the shading may be due to terrain and some to intrinsic albedo of the ground (that's reflectivity, or "greyness").

It's a hard one to untangle. One way is to look at a LOT of images in this areaand get a feel for what's in them, then the oddities stand out better.

Go to http://marsglobalsurveyor.com, and do a search for narrow angle images on, say, a 2 degree range N-S and an 8 degree E-W based on 71.5 S, 0 W.
