NASA does some high altitude research from a field near JSC with these
cold-war era U-2 ish bombers (B-57?) that go pretty high in altitude(60kft+). I don't know exactly how long they're up there but if you gotta go..... it would be above 99% of the atmosphere and might give a nice flourescence from the solar UV at that altitude.
I don't buy the space junk, thats usually green or blue... just like the universe.
