Some more tough little nuggets about the illusions of Mars
True von Braun pictured Mars explorers with space suits, but they were simply low atmosphere suits, not the kind of full pressure suits that the near vacuum of Mars requires. This same illusion as to the nature of Mars is foisted today by the Mars Society upon the public as a whole.
von Braun's imagined Mars also had liquid water and water ice, and advanced surface life forms. Also, until Vanguard von Braun had next to no understanding of the radiation problem.
