I was talking about a launch pad evacuation

If you look at Raoul's post, he stated the following:

If there are 10 passengers inside SpaceHab during liftoff and return, how about safety measures and evacuation procedures for those away from the mid-deck?

I was addressing that part of your reply to Raoul's post where you said,

IF there were an accident, all hands would likely go down, just like on an airliner.

Evacuation from the Shuttle while it's flying has little chance of success. That "slide down a pole and parachute" system would only work in level flight while the Shuttle is flying subsonically and dropping like a stone. The window for using such a system is very small.

On the other hand, the crews train on evacuating the Shuttle on the ground in case of a launch pad incident. They have equipment and procedures in place that would give them a chance of getting clear of the pad. However, anyone down in the bowels of the SpaceHab would have to climb upwards at least a couple stories before they could reach the crew deck and evacuate. Clearly, the chances of getting even a handful of people out of the SpaceHab in an abort situation are damned near zero.

So, do you condemn any of your passengers to the certainty of a toasty death if there's a pad emergency or do you provide some means that might give them a chance of getting out? My idea is far from perfect but blowing the Shuttle cargo doors and deploying slides is the best practical alternative I can think of at the moment. We also need to consider an evacuation following a landing accident. My slide idea is admittedly weak in that regard. Got a better idea?
