Hi, Kadet Ken! Long time no hear from you.
Your ideas are sound, but NASA maybe a bigger obstacle than you mey think.
Hi, Raoul.
Yes! You're right! The ISS is not a good destination for tourists.
[ONE] "Space tourists" need an orbiting destination that is a dedicated
"space tourist" destination and habitat, not one designed for science, research, etc.
[TWO] "Space tourists" need an orbital outpost/habitat that has to have a good deal more living and recreation VOLUME that the ISS has.
[THREE] The "space tourist" habitat
needs to be relatively inexpensive
to design, build, assemble & launch. [i.e., under two billion dollars (US)]
[FOUR] The "space-tourist" habitat needs to be comfortable. Bad smells, extremes of temperature and humidity, loud noises are verboten.
And such amenities as internet, DVD movies, showers [zero-g equivalent], sat-telephones, hotmeals
& flush toilets [zero-g equivalent] are a must.
[FIVE] The "space tourist" habitat needs to be entertaining, partly provided by the amenities in # FOUR,
partly by excellent VIEWING WINDOWS,
partly by the abundant volume availble for a SPORTS/GYMNASTICS facility.
Only two types of space=-tourist
facilites would meet those criteria:
Either an INFLATABLE ONE, or the use
of EMPTY SHUTTLE FUEL-TANKS.

A destination for "space tourists" needs to be large, cheap, comfortable, and entertaining.
