What's confusing about the reports coming out of Russia is...
..that they, the Russians
are reportedly wanting to move all their
launches to Plesetsk [way up north], where they will lose most of the planet's rotational velocity advantage
available at Baikonur.
You could theoretically launch Soyuz manned missions from Plesetsk with an upgraded Soyuz booster, but why?...
Nobody at "space.com", or at the website "Spaceflight Now", is making any mention of Russia's obligations to the ISS, and how they conflict with this latest report from Russia. The ISS will still require
Russian Soyuz/Progress spacecraft
visitations, even after 2005; the
alleged "moving date" for Russia's
space program from Baikonur to Plesetsk.
