Does anyone else think the Mars Society embarassed themselves with their over-hyped "Mars excursion" recently? They said it was to demonstrate the feasibility of walking around and working on Mars.
Navigating with GPSs, unable to get a primitive person-to-person communication system working, they had white overalls with a clear dome for their heads. They looked for life forms and collected geologic samples.
It was Mickey Mouse beyond belief, and not related to Mars. Haven't they heard of Apollo, where people demonstrated this a bit more realistically.
I am in total sympathy with their goal of publicizing Mars and promoting Mars exploration. I have no sympathy with something like this which is an insult to the intelligence of the public, and that's going a long, long, long ways.
