Lucky dog!
I've seen only one Shuttle reentry in my life over the San Francisco bay area a number of years back in the middle of the night. Looked like a road flare shooting across the sky, followed by a "smoke" trail. Had I known how rare this was going to be, I would have woken the kids up.
