I have often wondered how it takes a massive computer to do the same job that an insect barely visible to the naked eye can do with no trouble. Good grief, look what an ant or a bee does. How big are their brains? Obviously, some totally different approach to handling data and responses is being used. I'm glad someone is looking into this.
I once considered writing an SF story where insects were hardwired into space probes and rovers and their natural and rigid behaviors used to control the equipment. Maybe it could work.
