Unfortunarely, the way that the "wind is blowing" there is a strong element of caution and we are likely to see another flat and boring site. No spectacular cliffs in the background etc.
My personal favourite remains the Athabasca Valles site where I think we have one of the best locations on Mars to find mineralogical and geomorphological evidence for the nature of volatile outbursts - be they H2O, CO2, or both.
This site selection difficult is illustrative of the problems of expensive probes. if they were cheaper, smaller, and more numerous, we could afford to drop dozens of themscattered all across the planet in "interesting" places, knowing that some would fail, but when they represent the better part of a billion dollars (US $700 million budget at present, and over budget, + future contingencies...), we can't afford any more expensive failures like MPL. - Too much egg!
