Re: Amateurs are welcome, but this should be done professionally

Glad you at least agree with this point, at least in part.

Perhaps I didn't make myself clear. It isn't the amateurs' interest, which I welcome.

What bothers me is the governmental organizations, and not simply just NASA, but those of Europe, Japan, et al, trying to pretend that amateur efforts are adequate in dealing with this deadly serious problem. On the stupidity scale, this is roughly equivalent to the situation that would occur if these governments turned over their anti-terrorist investigations to journalists and relied on their results.

As far as Dr. Peiser's comment goes,
"speculation" like "recent", is a word that has a really precise contextually bound definition in anthropology.

All I have been working with is written records from 2 hemispheres, as well as stratigraphy and population flows. Since my work on dating this event relies solely on this evidence, it is indeed "speculative".

What's needed are hard dates from the Rio Cuarto impact structure, and this can only be gained by field work, and this requires funding. It is now 10 years since Brown's publication of his initial survey of the Rio Cuarto impact structure, and only now has funding for further work on this structure come through.
