A supersonic propeller-driven aircraft; is it possible?
OK!
I read somewhere that a WWII Mustang
aircraft achieved a sustained level-flight speed of 488MPH at 25,000 feet altitude.
Also, modified piston-engined "racers" have achieved top-speeds
of over 540MPH at low-altitude, in level-flight.
So could a piston-engined aircraft
[2000-3000HP?] with a super-sleek, super-streamlined design [including
sweptback or retracted wings], and a nitro-boosted engine achieve a supersonic milestone at level-flight?
