I'm sure when your kids are dying of malaria birds of prey seem a little less important. This article does not negate the impact of DDT on birds of prey nor the experience of people who actually made it who are glad we no longer do. Nor does it negate the negative human health impact. Always looking for an excuse to deny the downside of our industrial society is precisely why I am skeptical of those wishing to dismiss environmental concerns out of hand.
What it does demonstrate ably is what so many extreme environmentalists, blindly pro-business types, and political extremists ignore is that most things have a positive and a negative side. Balance is as important as taking a stand for or against. Even poisons have their positive uses in certain cituations and you can almost always get too much of a good thing.
