I wonder how difficult it would be to just add a second decent module to the whole stack allowing for 6 people to be returned. Perhaps that would push the weight beyond the capacity of the rocket. Also it might complicate flight control. What sometimes seems like a simple idea can turn into a real rats nest of complications when it comes to making it work.
