Re: Bad News For Space

The good news is that the military is pushing manned space systems, so you may find a niche there eventually.

As with all surveys, they need to be taken with a grain of salt if you don't have a copy of the questions in front of you (I haven't found them online.)

As the report notes, more knowledgable people have a higher opinion of the space program. Our education system has not been turning out people knowledgable in science like it should have, so there's another possible source of the problem.

Interest in space tends to be cyclical...I think interest will perk up again when the space tourism things starts to get the attention of the general public a bit more. If what's-his-face the pop star goes up, it's going to attract a lot of attention. I'm hoping that the private sector--which doesn't have to impress a majority of voters--gets into the business in a big way.

Just as an aside, I think the Hubble has really strutted its stuff. I bet it would get a high rating if people were asked specifically about it as an individual project.
