"The Captain's Word Is Law."
A sign on my office wall for years.
There is no question who the 1000 lb gorilla is on a Naval vessel but there are some interesting social curiosities.
I am not sure about subs but the most popular crewmen on larger ships are the cooks and laundrymen. In one sense they are at the bottom of the food chain but they are catered to by their shipmates for the benefits of getting between meal snacks and getting special service for uniform cleaning. The availability of clean laundry can affect your shore leave.
I would imagine that on a submarine there would not be enough leisure time to allow any informal power structure to develop.
