Apparently I'm not the only one thinking along these lines. Just a few months ago, a withdrawal from Afghanistan would have been as unthinkable for Obama as a withdrawal from Iraq was for Bush a few years ago. Now people on "both sides of the political divide" are thinking seriously about this, and the Dems now can seriously propose this without being reflexively denounced as cowards and traitors.
My own opinion is we should stay until that nest of vipers is cleaned out, but that depends on whether or not we are actually making any progress there. Of course, I don't trust the authorities to level with me on that. If we are indeed winning, I say we finish the job. If its a stalemate, I say we get out. Only a handful of men really know for sure, and only of few of them are in any position to do anything about it.
And now that we've all been reminded just how many social programs (and tax cuts) this war is costing us, we may just see some bipartisan compromise on this. Anyway, I'll stick my neck out and say look for some unexpected Republican and Democratic agreement on this. Sorry about being such a cynic, but that's the way I see it.
