Look at the diagram I linked to. How much money is currently spend on the money spent on "the poor, the sick, our youth and the aged and on investment for rebuilding our infrastructure?" I have always granted that a lot of military spending, like most government programs, is wasteful and unnecessary, but we are not going to enter paradise when the wars are over. We weren't there before they started.
Another meme I would like to see die is using the term "investment" to refer to spending on things that consistently never return more than that what was spent on them.
Federal "investment" is money targeted to political allies in return for political power. And almost all of it burns more wealth than it creates.
