According to an article in today's Figaro, Bada and Lazcano argue that life on Earth (the RNA) thrived after a long period of intense cold (the Earth was completely covered with ice 700 million years ago and after that, multicellular life started.
Of course, if no heat is ever released, life (or what it was in the beginning) can't really evolve at all.
